Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A strained, relentless quest for gross-out humor and outlandish sexual escapades. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Apr 6, 2012

Fresh: In the end, "American Reunion" even gets away with its sequel-baiting closing line: "Till next time!" – Rafer Guzman, Newsday, Apr 6, 2012

Rotten: Overall, the level of wit and invention from writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg is well below their scripts for the three "Harold and Kumar" movies. – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Apr 6, 2012

Fresh: Yes, American Reunion is a juvenile outing. They steal jet skis and defecate in beer coolers. They cheat on their girlfriends and lie to their best friends. But what did you expect? – Ricardo Baca, Denver Post, Apr 6, 2012

A SWEET SEND-OFF FOR THE "AMERICAN PIE" GANG

As a fan of the "American Pie" franchise, I was a little more than eager to see "American Reunion" for myself on opening day. With its endearingly funny characters and incredibly raunchy humor, the series has become a personal favorite of mine for a few years now. And I have to say, this latest addition holds up surprisingly well compared to the sequels. The gang from East Great Falls finally reunites for a long-overdue high school reunion. And as everyone reconnects and reminisces about their wild high school days, you can bet hilarity will ensue (and boy, does it ever). Jim still can't keep control of his lustful thoughts, and Stifler continues to make obnoxiously crude wisecracks wherever he goes. Even Jim's Dad brings some heavy laughs as he reluctantly reenters the dating game with hysterical results. As for the other characters, the movie does focus on their side stories here and there, but not for long. In fact, there isn't really much of a cohesive storyline to follow along with at all. For the most part, everyone pretty much goes off in their own direction, mostly revisiting past relationships or getting themselves into a few ridiculously over-the-top situations. But in the end, what really matters in this film are the sweetly sentimental bits of pure nostalgia. They're both emotionally satisfying and affectionately honest for those who've already seen the first three movies. So don't let the professional critics' reviews dissuade you. If you're a true fan of the series, "American Reunion" is a must-see.

Funny.

If you had a sense of humor in 1999-2000 you will like this movie. It's weird... but my life has been remarkably similar to the overall American Pie themes. High School, College, Marriage, and now kids. I bought it... which I normally don't do... And was quite entertained.
