Plot Summary

Adan Kundle (Bruce Greenwood), the CEO of a major advertising agency, wakes up in the hospital to find that he is only able to communicate through advertising slogans. When Adan must leave the hospital in favor of long-term care placement, Karen Hillridge (Parker Posey), the head of the hospital's charity foundation, reluctantly decides to take him into her home for a few days. Through his ongoing – and often inappropriately timed slogans – Adan slowly but surely begins to affect Karen and the dysfunctional relationship she has with her daughter.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: To describe "And Now a Word From Our Sponsor" as a one-joke skit stretched well beyond the breaking point isn't entirely fair, because when used ingeniously, which is very seldom, the joke lands. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, May 9, 2013

Rotten: Plop plop. Fizz fizz. Oh, what a missed opportunity it is! – Peter Debruge, Variety, May 9, 2013

Rotten: This insipid, fraudulent Canadian comedy smells like a 30-year-old screenplay somebody found in the CAA commissary under a short chair leg. – David Klipen, Village Voice, May 8, 2013

Rotten: Always-good Greenwood ambles through on charm and bemusement, but the film is still an idea in search of meaning. – Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News, May 9, 2013

Posey nails it

best performance in recent years for Parker Posey. Cool indie film. First time director does very well

I'm lovin' it!

Bruce Greenwood is hilarious in this clever & heartfelt comedy. Loved it! Highly recommend…although you might catch yourself reciting ad slogans for the next 24 hours after watching…

What

Once again Parker Posey's ability to capture nuances of a character, and yet make it completely believable has endeared her to me and probably all mother's with teenage girls suffering angst and melancholy. But this is not a teen-story film. The magic of this film is how a transcendental discovery of the here and now, the present moment , creates complete freedom for advertising mogul--"Adin" masterfully played by Bruce Greenwood. It is spiced with nostalgia and tackles the "does life imitate art , or ..." question. His eyes really are the window to the soul. Callum Blue (is there a color theme here?) also aces his role as power monger ad agency executive. Callum's sidekick assistant is also fun, funny, and masterful in her role. The interplay of the mystical with the mundane and very emotional conflict made me think about what life is really about. Parker Posey is romantic, vivacious, ordinary, and beautiful--she makes you live her character. Enjoy!!!
