Customer Reviews
This is a cute and witty romp indeed.
This little is film is such a welcome surprise in the sea of so much gay genre drek. The lead is super cute and sexy, San Francisco is beautiful, its clever and funny so what's not to like. Watch it and see for yourself.
Laugh out loud funny
Ashleigh Sumner gives a brilliant performance along side Jill Bennett and Cathy Debuono is this comedy race through San Francisco. The cinematography was gorgeous with tourists attractions and lesser known landmarks being shot as a backdrop to Lola as she begs borrows and steals her way through the city. The animation sequences made the film more watchable and gave it a whole new dimension. Great job Fast Girl Films.
Fun, Sexy and Imaginative Flick
Take a dash of "Ground Hog Day" and a pinch of the German Classic "Run, Lola, Run" stir it up then add a group of San Francisco lesbians and you get "And Then Came Lola." The film is a light and non-linear examination of lesbian relationships-past, present and future. It's unconventional, but that's why I liked it. If you are one of those who digs typical lesbian cinematic dirges, this won't be your cup of tea. However, it you're up for something a bit outside the box--a film that's creative, insightful, and fun--then this is a film for you.
The acting was actually pretty good. Ashleigh Sumner particularly strong as the lead character (LOLA). She exudes a boyish charm and has a knack for comedy. It also doesn't hurt that she's quite attractive in a butchy femme kinda way. Jill Bennett plays her girlfriend Casey and also gives a solid performance. She's also pretty much drop-dead gorgeous. I also appreciate that most of the actors in the film are OUT lesbians. Nice to see real lesbians play lesbians instead of the usual pay-for-gay casting.
Taking a cue from "Run, Lola, Run" the film also features creative use of mixed media including still photographs and animation. This film is meant to be a tad campy and over the top, and it works well. Best of all, the film explores lesbian relationships from the perspective of lesbians. IIt's refreshing to laugh about ourselves through the characters who inhabit a world that's seems to be entirely gay. It's refreshing contrast to most films of this genre.
The soundtrack is great and features lots of lesbian indie artists like Saucy Monky, Sick of Sarah, Jen Corday and more. Lots of lesbo talent to be found. I give it 2 thumbs up!
