Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: One of those almost unbearably classy movies, like A Man for All Seasons and Becket, that have a way of elevating the reputations of moviemakers without doing much for the art. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Mar 23, 2011

Rotten: It is a story fit for the second Elizabeth, though it has perhaps one minor fault: the first two hours. – TIME Magazine, Mar 23, 2011

Fresh: Anne of the Thousand Days is a stunning-acted, sumptuous, grand-scale widescreen drama of the royal bed chamber and political intrigues that created the Church of England. – Variety Staff, Variety, Mar 23, 2011

Fresh: Some plucky performance don't manage to embue this historical drama with the regal spectacle the source material deserves. – David Parkinson, Empire Magazine, Mar 23, 2011

Thanks, iTunes.....

I'm not sure when this movie was put up on iTunes, but thanks so much. Especially after watching the "Tudors" I went to find my copy (VHS) of this movie and it was all discolored and in a really bad state. "Anne..." was a great production. I think Richard Burton was too old for this part, but still he played it to the hilt. Also, Ms.Bujold did a great job as Anne. Thanks, again for posting this movie. One of my all time favorites.

Anne of the Thousand Days

I found this film to be most engaging! Bujold and Burton hold so much conviction in their masterful method acting, and so well-delivered, that it alone makes the movie quite powerful. This is a "must see", long before "Elizabeth", etc. While some of it is historically inaccurate, for the most part, the viewer receives a stunning portrayal of Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII. This is not to understate the supporting actors and their respective greatness in this work. Superbly cast, directed and paced, especially for its time. KTW

Excellent Hisotrical Classic

Anne of the Thousand Days is beautifully acted and even though it can be considered an 'old' movie, i'm only 22 and i thoroughly enjoyed it. The storyline is entertaining and very, very dramatic and you're also learning a piece of England's history and being very entertained at the same time. The acting is excellent and the costumers are breathtaking. It is a bit of a long movie (over two hours), but it is worth every minute. Very enjoyable overall.
