Plot Summary

Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972, was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. This is actual footage captured by the astronauts on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Accomplishes something the world wasn't really crying out for: it recreates the tedium of watching the later Apollo missions. – Mike Hale, New York Times, Sep 6, 2011

Rotten: Apollo 18 fails to stay with you because, like the cratered satellite on which it's set, it has no atmosphere. – Keith Staskiewicz, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 2, 2011

Rotten: Despite stretches of skillfully sustained suspense, Apollo 18 ultimately comes across as little more than a modestly clever stunt. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Sep 6, 2011

Rotten: The film takes a startlingly long time to rev up, and even at less than 90 minutes feels thin and at moments like it is playing for time. – Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times, Sep 5, 2011

BORING...

"Apollo 18" is nothing more than yet another generic "found-footage" horror movie that serves no significant purpose other than to cash in on the success of the popular "Paranormal Activity" franchise. The performances of the two main actors (Warren Christie and Lloyd Owen) are mediocre at best, the story alone takes a startlingly long time to pick up any pace or keep anybody's interest at bay, and the premise altogether is just plain bland and uninteresting. In addition, the suspense tactics force themselves upon the audience way too hard most of the time and come across as a tad gimmicky to be considered the slightest bit believable. But perhaps the film's biggest problem is that it just doesn't do anything truly different or risky to set itself apart from every other flick in its small subgenre. I swear, "Apollo 18" was so boring and monotonous, I found myself practically dozing in and out of sleep throughout most of its 86-minute running time. In the end, it's just not as entertaining as I would've initially hoped. You'll be better off renting a movie like "Cloverfield" rather than this disappointment. Trust me, it's really not that good.

Worst movie ever!

This was the worst movie I have ever watched. I am mad and I want my money back. Whoever is responsible for making this movie please send me 20 bucks. My money doesn't come as easily as yours obviously does. Please don't waste your time and money like I did on this.

Astrophysicist

As an astrophysicist I found this movie awesome for the portrayal of being on the moon. While they got tons of stuff wrong it's still a great story. Admittedly it's another shaky cam thriller but fun for a what if scenario!
