Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: It is as if chunks of the film had landed on the editing-room floor in a desperate, last-minute attempt to trim its length. Just when its parts should come together, "As Cool as I Am" crumbles to bits. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jun 6, 2013

Rotten: Simplistic plotting, pedestrian visuals and poorly-handled melodrama do lend the project a cheap, made-for-TV feel, which is underscored by the fact that Danes and Marsden don't seem obliged to turn in their best work. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Jun 7, 2013

Rotten: Oh no: Claire Danes as the mom? Already? What's next, Chelsea Clinton for president? – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jun 7, 2013

Rotten: The film is the cinematic equivalent of a teenager, making everything more melodramatic than it needs to be, and impatient with the subtle details of life. – Tina Hassannia, Slant Magazine, Jun 6, 2013

A little slice of dysfunctional

A little slice of dysfunctional family life.

Home-Bland

Clare Danes is a talented actress but the movie itself is flat

Huh??

Somehow I ended up renting this movie and I'm not sure what I was thinking. Oh, I remember now... It was Claire Danes!!! Was she desperate for $$? I made the grand mistake of sitting down with my daughter thinking this would be a movie to watch together. It's almost as if the writers sat around and thought of all the dysfunctional things a parent could do & shoved them into one movie. The daughter ends up mothering both her parents: it's sick. And the part where James Marsden shoves his head against the wall was the point my daughter looked at me and rolled her eyes: even she could see this movie was pointless. No meaning, no message, no entertainment value.
