Plot Summary

2013 Oscar nominee for Best Live Action Short Film. Set in a war-torn fishing village in Somalia, an all-Somali refugee cast brings to life this coming-of-age fable of a Somali Boy who is faced with falling into the pirate life, or rising above to choose the path of an honest fishing man.

ASAD

Great production and acting--the movie was made exceptionally well. I thought the script itself and Somali linguistics was under whelming and weak. The subtitles loosely translated the said words. The actors were phenomenal--but the director clearly too lazy to write an in depth script-- shallowness of story almost slap to the rich story telling of culture. Visual effect and sound are great. -- wish it were longer.

Oscar nominee sure to be the winner!

I saw this film at TriBeCa Film Festival and immediately thought, this is going to win the Oscar. This film is powerful and funny and brings to light a serious subject matter - Somalia and all that goes with it, but in a very clever way. A very well executed movie. It's got my vote to win the Oscar.

A gem by Bryan Buckley

Beautifully shot with a terrific cast. I wanted it to keep going and going. Very charming and real. This better win the oscar!
