Plot Summary
Academy Award®-nominees Andy Garcia (OCEAN’S ELEVEN FRANCHISE, CITY ISLAND) and Vera Farmiga (THE DEPARTED, TV’s BATES MOTEL) shine as George and Edith, two separate parents who fall in love over the course of a single day while playing hooky from their children's college tour. George is an uptight surgeon with a rebellious teenage son. Edith is a free spirit with an overachieving teen daughter. When they meet during an admissions tour with their kids at the small, idyllic Middleton University, they decide to ditch the group and soon discover the only thing better than the college tour, is the detour. Taissa Farmiga (THE BLING RING, TV’s AMERICAN HORROR STORY), Nicholas Braun (THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER), and Peter Riegert (TV’s DAMAGES) co-star in this story about what can happen on your first day of college – no matter who you are.

Fresh: A bittersweet portrait of two people, who, in the process of helping their children choose a college, confront the emptiness of their respective marriages.
Rotten: Garcia and Farmiga have such an easy, natural chemistry that their on-screen sparkle helps mitigate the film's weaknesses. At others times, it serves to underscore what might have been. It's a feckless conundrum.
Fresh: Modern-day Brief Encounter benefits from sparkling dialogue and splendid acting.
Rotten: What starts out mildly charming is mostly tiresome by the time they start doing bong rips in a random student's dorm room.

Garcia and Farmiga = Magic
Andy Garcia not playing in a mobster film and Vera Farmiga not playing in a horror movie proves how great a talent both are in Middleton. The debut film for writer director Adam Rodgers is a great canvas for both of these Academy nominated actors. Laugh and learn what makes George(Andy /Garcia) and Edith(Vera Farmiga tick and how these seeming opposites attract. The acting was strong the background beautiful and an enjoyable movie for adults was had. Two Thumbs up.
