Plot Summary
Part two of Ayn Rand’s groundbreaking novel comes to the screen in this thrilling and powerful drama. The global economy is on the brink of collapse. Brilliant creators, from artists to industrialists, continue to mysteriously disappear. Dagny Taggart, Vice President in Charge of Operations for Taggart Transcontinental, has discovered what may very well be the answer to a mounting energy crisis - a revolutionary motor that could seemingly power the World. Rotten: The producers are going to have to hire a better director if they want moviegoers to be curious enough about this Galt guy to buy a ticket for the presumptive third and final chapter.
Rotten: It's consistent with its predecessor as a somewhat awkward translation of Ayn Rand's 1957 novel to our current era, handled with bland telepic-style competency.
Rotten: Director John Putch struggles to find balance or generate a single spark from the clunky mix of romance, political diatribe and thriller.
Rotten: If the novel Atlas Shrugged is ultimate libertarian porn, then the first two installments of the screen adaptation are soggy softcore.

Terrible Effort
Very very awful. Great book, could have done so much better. The budget was too small, the acting too big and the book not well represented. Wish it was done by someone who pained over it the way Ayn Rand pained over the novel. She spent some ten years getting it right, this movie visibly lacked the same commitment. Josh whatshisname should be ashamed of directing this travesty.
Give it a chance and use critical thought
This movie brings up many relative sociological issues that are lacking in today's culture. Critical thinkers and creativity is falling by the way side and no one seems to care. Is the acting mediocre? Yes. But this is a low budget film that aims to open people's eyes to what's going on. Wake up people. Or read the book. Otherwise, watch the film and take think about the issues and government intervention and regulations that this film brings up. It's happening now. Too much government control of industry kills capitalism and economic increase.
Change of Heart
I wasn't so thrilled with the change of actors at first, but the movie and the tempo grows on you. I would rather it be 20 times longer than it is to capture the WHOLE story of socialist oblivion unfolding.
