Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Bergmanesque and beautiful, set in a wintry landscape fitfully lit by one woman's flickering awareness and one man's long-term, stubborn love, Away from Her is one of the most remarkable and moving love stories the movies have recently given us. – Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Away From Her got to me in a way no other movie has this year, eliciting copious tears. – Ruthe Stein, San Francisco Chronicle, May 12, 2007

Fresh: Away From Her isn't just a portrait of Alzheimer's. For a generation that doesn't have a lot of marital role models, it's also a lyrical portrait of what it means to stick with a person for the long run. There are no easy answers. – Paige Wiser, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: It's Christie who places this powerful love story about the cruelties of aging within hailing distance of Leo McCarey's sublime Make Way for Tomorrow. – Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader, Oct 18, 2008

You Will R-e-m-e-m-b-e-r This Movie!...

This is a sad yet wonderful movie. The subject matter is quite universal. The story is told of Alzheimers disease from such a unique perspective. Both leading actors give great performances. Their chemistry is so good it breaks your heart. Julie Christie proves that women can be, and are, sexy and fabulous after 50. She smolders here in an age appropriate way. Olympia Dukakis is great as ever in her supporting role. she's so wise. I was completely involved by this film. Do yourself a favor and see it. Grade A stuff.

One of the BEST FILMS OF 2007!

Julie Christie has given yet, another breathtaking performance. This film is definitely one of her best, the movie was very good, and it is serious at the same time, and it is unforgettable. Sarah Polley does an excellent job directing and the rest of the cast do an excellent job in the film as well. This movie is really good, I have seen it many times and no wonder Christie has been nominated for an oscar.

Don't Walk 'Away' From this Movie

Terrific...one of the finest movies I have seen in years, and well deserving of it's critical acclaim. By the way, to the fool who put One Star ... you really need to find a hobby or something.
