Nominated for Best Screenplay and directed by the great John Sturges ("The Great Escape", "The Magnificent Seven," "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral"). Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Slowly, through a process of guarded discourse, which Director John Sturges has built up by patient, methodical pacing of his almost completely mate cast, an eerie light begins to glimmer. – Bosley Crowther, New York Times, Mar 27, 2009

Fresh: Considerable excitement is whipped up in this suspense drama, and fans who go for tight action will find it entirely satisfactory. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: I think it's really great the way it addresses the way small communities and isolated communities close in on themselves to protect ugliness. – Margaret Pomeranz, At the Movies (Australia), Mar 4, 2014

Fresh: This was an early CinemaScope film, and William Mellor frames it all beautifully. It's an outstanding thriller. – David Stratton, At the Movies (Australia), Mar 4, 2014

Sleeper

Great movie that doesn't get the credit it deserves. My parents forced me to watch this movie the first time, but it has been a favorite of mine ever since. Bad Day at Black Rock addresses the harm that uncontrolled anger can lead us to cause and the shame it can bring.

Fantastic Clasic

My wife and I decided to try an old classic and we sure enjoyed this Movie! If you are tired of the lame movies coming out of Hollywood these days, give this a try. You won't regret it. It is a new Favorite for us.

Bad Day At Black Rock

The performances of some of the actors help make this film watchable, notably Spencer Tracey, Walter Brennan, and Robert Ryan. I found the film to be slow moving, almost at a standstill in some scenes. It has a good storyline, however, it's execution could be better.
