Plot Summary

The life of an anonymous assassin takes an unexpected turn when he travels to Thailand to complete a series of contract killings. Joe (Nicolas Cage), a remorseless hitman, is in Bangkok to execute four enemies of a ruthless crime boss named Surat. He hires Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm), a street punk and pickpocket, to run errands for him with the intention of covering his tracks by killing him at the end of the assignment. Strangely, Joe, the ultimate lone wolf, instead finds himself mentoring the young man while simultaneously being drawn into a tentative romance with a local shop girl. As he falls further under the sway of Bangkok's intoxicating beauty, Joe begins to question his isolated existence and let down his guard … just as Surat decides it’s time to clean house.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Directed by the Pang brothers (Danny and Oxide), Bangkok Dangerous is a halfhearted remake of their 1999 picture of the same name. – Nathan Lee, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: [Cage takes] the big bucks to star in slovenly, inert pulp of the sort no actor of his magnitude should be stooping to. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: There's a charming restaurant scene, some nifty hand-to-hand combat and the cast is great looking. But pretty much all the things that made the original so original are filtered out of this un-original. – Michael Ordona, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Bangkok Dangerous is bad without lifting a finger toward interesting. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Jun 24, 2010

An existential masterpiece - NOT for the proles...

If you are happy with the usual Hollywood, formulaic action/romance plot, then definitely avoid this movie. If you like artistically and intellectually challenging, unpredictable stories that do not conform to what the mainstream dictates an action movie should be, then you will enjoy this movie very much. I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to see existentially brutal/beautiful storytelling combined with excellent camera work, well choreographed action, and hilariously realistic gore all in an unpredictable, thought provoking plot. If you love happy endings that follow all of the mass-market conventions of storytelling, keep moving and go watch Sleepless in Seattle or something.

not how i thought it would be. 2 thumbs down!

the scenario needs change, a lot of it to. second of all the acting is horrible! I mean Nicholas Cage could do better, but is 100% a bad assassin. Finally, the latest movies with Nicholas Cage ( Wicker Man, Ghost Rider, and especially this) have made a good actor look like a horses behind. Seriously, his newest movie, Knowing, better be good, becuse it looks good! This is just one of those lame agent FBI suff that parodies James Bond, SKIP IT!

This movie is really bad, Nicolas Cage is absolutely horrible

The role of a ruthless killer doesn't suit Nicolas Cage too well. His acting is horrible in this movie, the movie lacks suspense, credible characters and a thrilling plot. I get the feeling that Nicolas Cage has been paid big bucks to play in a "local" Thai movie, this movie is so bad, it doesn't feel like Hollywood or any other decent movie style. This is one of the worst B-movies of this decade, only one or two other movies are that bad. I really wonder why Nicolas Cage made this movie, not his thing at all.
