Plot Summary

Carlos teaches kickboxing to kids, but he has been losing business. His ex-wife, Vanessa, left him because he couldn’t provide for her and their son. To keep his business afloat, he goes to his brother, Ricky, a successful bartender connected to the underworld, to ask for $10,000. Ricky tells Carlos that he can secure a loan from Morales, a crime lord, if Carlos enters an underground pit fighting tournament. Carlos agrees, and Ricky decides to join him, enticed by the promised winnings. The first few rounds go well, but when Ricky faces Chuy, a giant undefeated fighter, his arm is broken. Short on cash, Ricky cuts cocaine in order to make ends meet. But when Morales and his henchman, Ruiz, catch Ricky, they hold him hostage, demanding that Carlos throw his next fight so they can bet against him. Carlos must choose between saving his brother and winning the money he desperately needs.

Bust a jaw sensei

Think Karate Kid for the barrio. Blood, guns, plot. After the first 10 minutes though all I could think about was ordering a "Sex on the beach!"

Good movie

After i watched this movie i was air punching and kicking all over the house and play fighting with my kid. Im not mexican but i still liked the movie. Mucho

Great little action flick!

If you are a fan of tournament-style martial arts films, you will really enjoy this one. What it lacks in production value, it more than makes up for in charm, wit, and amazing fight scenes! Seriously, the action alone is worth the price! The fight scenes ride a line between being brutal and realistic, and stylistic and fun. The choreographer definitely did a great job. I got into the simple story, one that we've seen before, mainly because the characters felt very authentic and had heart and soul. I could relate to what they were going through. I'm also happy to see some people of Hispanic/Latino culture getting a chance at being the main characters in an American-produced film. Very cool. It was great to see some low-rider action in there too! There's also some quirky humor scattered throughout, and some of it is laugh out loud funny.

I was very surprised to learn that it was released through the Asylum, a low budget film company known primarily for overblown, cheesy, sci-fi "mockbusters". I hope they do more like this!!!

Is it a perfect film? No, it definitely has it's limitations, but overall I say it's worth taking a look at. Especially if you are a fan of the genre. The trailer and the poster do not do the film justice in my opinion. I can see this becoming a cult hit among die hard fans of MA films. I for one rank it high up there for American made martial arts films. Like I said, the whole film is well done, with some great performances by the lead players (the two brothers were great, as were the three villains) but the the fight scenes are well worth seeing. I want to own it just to be able to watch them over and over again! My only complaint is that there weren't more of them and that they weren't longer!
