Plot Summary
Bass Ackwards is a captivating and consummately human film that reminds us that whatever we think the road is about, the trip is probably about something else. Alternating between scripted action, improvisation, and the unpredictable spontaneity of verite encounters, the film is the semi-autobiographical story of Linas Phillips, who stars as well as directs. Born of the imagination of Linas and his easy collaboration with old friends, costars, and co-conspirators Davie-Blue, Jim Fletcher, Paul Lazar, and Sean Porter, the film effortlessly and organically crosses the line between reality and fiction, incorporating the people and characters that Linas meets on an unscripted and adventurous ride across America.

good small movie
while at times pretty derivative, hokie and whimsical, Bass Ackwards still sits with me twelve hours after viewing it. The compositions were gorgeous and understated and the acting, which at first bothered me a bit, soon began to jive with me and work really well. The marketing campaign for this movie is smart and may just set the trend for movies like it in the future. Linas Phillips seems to be a step or two beyond his Executive Producer (Mark Duplass) and much more akin to the small films of Aaron Katz.
Transcendant and brilliant
Caught this at Sundance the other day as part of the new NEXT section. It's a beautifully shot, well-acted film. I love how the director takes the worn out convention and cliche of the indie road movie and turns it inside out. It's reminds me of David Gordon Green's films, but more accessible. Glad to see Sundance embracing films like this...
Funny and Original
Saw this film at Sundance and found it to be quite funny. Somewhat of an offbeat story but with many memorable moments. Glad that it's already available on iTunes.
