Plot Summary
With an unquenchable thirst for blood, Countess Elizabeth Bathory was one of the most prolific serial killers in history. Tearing flesh from bodies and bathing in warm blood, she delighted in an unholy quest for immortality while her country was being torn apart by a brutal and devastating civil war. Told on a grand scale in the 17th Century, Bathory is based on the true story of her rise and fall.

Nice...
First of all, this isn't much of a horror film- despite the fact that it's listed under Horror on ITunes. It is more of a fantasy/historical drama/period piece. It is based loosely off of the legend of Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory- who had the reputation of bathing in young girls' blood to remain youthful. The film follows her reign, along with others who are seeking to topple her, mixed in with battle scenes between Hungarians and Turks. The film is a bit long, with too many extra characters and feels like a miniseries crammed into nearly 2 and a half hours. Still, I greatly enjoyed this film, the character of Bathory was very well done. If you're looking for a darker, more horrific look at this historical figure, check out The Countess with Julie Delpy.
