Plot Summary

Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) must launch a rescue mission when they get a tip that Commodore Schmidlapp (Reginald Denny) is in danger aboard his yacht. But the tip is a set-up by four of the most powerful villains ever, who seek to defeat the dynamic duo once and for all! Armed with a dehydrator that can turn humans into dust, the fearsome foursome intends to take over the world! Can the Caped Crusaders use their high-flying heroism and groovy gadgetry to declaw Catwoman (Lee Meriwether), ice the Penguin (Burgess Meredith), upstage the Joker (Cesar Romero), and stump the Riddler (Frank Gorshin) in time?

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Batman is packed with action, clever sight gags, interesting complications and goes all out on bat with batmania: batplane, batboat, batcycle, etc. etc. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Fluffy, good-natured, endlessly quotable fun, just like you remember it. – Film4, Jul 9, 2012

Fresh: I'd choose Adam West's Batmobile over Michael Keaton's any day. – Time Out, Aug 16, 2007

Sheer Bat-fun!

Younger/newer fans unfamiliar with the '60s Batman will probably be horrified by this version and wonder how us older fans can even stand it. For me, it comes down to the fact that this film, like the TV series, celebrates comic books as representative of a more innocent time in our lives. The villains are bad, yes, but they're not sheer evil. Anyone who hasn't seen Frank Gorshin's Riddler is in for a hyperactive treat. Like the filmmakers, audiences should not take this film seriously; instead, just download it to your Bat-iPod and enjoy.

WHAT ABOUT JACK?

I totally agree that "Batman The Movie" is the ultimate hit in Batman history (it DID open doors for the movies that followed). However, I would LOVE to see "Batman" from 1989 with Jack Nicholson HERE on iTunes.
