Mature
WB went above and beyond on this title. It’s adult-themed story is on par with that of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, if not so, then more. Tons of great scenes, characters, language, and insanity expected from a true Arkham movie. Not to mention that the Suicide Squad gets to take center stage - which they do with little effort I might add. The writers did an awesome job of creating a story that blended very well with the styles of the Arkham games' universe, and provided anyone who’s a fan of the Batman universe with something to enjoy, I definitely recommend this for all DC fans looking for a more adult story line.
Meh
So-so. Let’s cut to the chase: the viewer doesn’t identify with anyone. Consequently you won’t care what happens to anyone. Nothing is really at stake here so it’s just “stuff that happens”. That means the visuals have to be incredible to carry the interest. They aren’t. The movie’s conceptual appeal is that it’s told from the perspective of the The Suicide Squad, a collection of criminals, with Batman making a rather minimal appearance where the coolest thing he does is recall the work shifts that specific employees usually work at the Asylum.
It would have been fantastic had we come to love these criminal misfits, identifying with their aspirations, (think Lex Luther in Smallville) and maybe partially forgiving their evil ways. Seeing a bit of ourselves in them. But they are flat characters whose motivations range from insanity to aggression. And also one of them carries around a photo of his daughter, though it’s not clear exactly how this motivates him.
There are a few hints of sex (two characters in bed about to hit it and a bit of dialogue), and nudity (female from the back) that might make this inappropriate for sheltered viewers under 14, but it’s hardly the “soft porn” some reviewers have called it.
The main reason to skip this is just that you won’t care about what happens.
Sick!
I'm a huge DCU fan and for some reason I thought this movie was going to be ok, but It's Awesome! Feels short but I guess its because it starts great from the beginning to the end. Totally enjoyed it.
