Plot Summary
A Tribe Called Quest has been one of the most commercially successful and artistically significant musical groups in recent history. The band’s sudden break-up in 1998 shocked the industry and saddened the scores of fans, whose appetite for the group's innovative musical stylings never seem to diminish. This insightful film, directed by Michael Rapaport, takes viewers on a behind-the-scenes journey - chronicling the group's rise to fame and revealing the stories behind the tensions which erupted in the years to come. The film features interviews with the members of the group as well as with the Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Pharrell, Mos Def, Monie Love, De la Soul, the Jungle Brothers, Common and more.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Rapaport, in his feature directorial debut, does an admirable job recounting the group's formation and dissecting its dissolution.
Fresh: Rapaport, a longtime Quest fan, clearly admires Tip. He's just too forthright a storyteller to bury the tale of the quartet's acrimonious unraveling.
Fresh: A reminder, part "Behind the Music" and part something better, that even artists professing love and togetherness have a hard time keeping it going.
Fresh: An outstanding effort, and one of the more honest band biopics in recent years.

Imperfect Balance - all BS aside, this DOC is already on the top of my list
I listed to alot of hip hop. I watch alot of documentaries. Just the idea of this doc happening made my mouth water. Now that I've seen it - I WANT MORE!!!
It was honest, insightful, raw, and of course hip hop. It's not only the story of a legendary musical group, it's an honest look at the inner workings of a dysfunctional family filled with passion, talent, tension, friendship, hatred, egos, miscommunication, a perfect imbalance, artistry, hardheadedness, peace, die-4-u mentality, machismo, but above all LOVE.
Been waiting 10 years for this story!!!
I just finished watching this documentary and I now understand why my favorite rap group of all time broke up and went separate ways . I haven't filled the void yet since tribe has been gone but a few promising artists like Little Brother , Blu , 9 th wonder and members of their crew have helped to ease some of the pain . Thank You to Michael Rappaport for doing this movie it was a story I have been waiting for for over 10 years . If you are a tribe fan support this and buy this to show them they still have fans out here hungry for more of their music . Peace
I love this MOVIE
