Plot Summary
Horror-meister Boris Karloff ("Frankenstein," "The Mummy") stars as the cruel head of a mental asylum who has an actress committed when she tries to bring much-needed reforms to his institution. Atmospheric chiller co-stars Anna Lee ("The Sound of Music," TV's "General Hospital"). Film critic Leonard Maltin awards it three stars.

Fresh: While the film has a tendency to wander into unadulterated Hollywoodisms in spots, it is a generally straight-forward and imaginative estimate of a two-century-old sociological theme.
Fresh: Nicholas Musaraca's excellent cinematography contributes a number of fine effects, and there's a strange and witty aside on the invention of movies.
Fresh: Robson's notably unpoetic direction doesn't help, either; yet few Hollywood films ever had such ambition.

Pretty Good Chiller
Karloff is great in the film, and the movie is quite good. I suggest watching it if you are a fan of chillers.
Boredom.....
Not one of Mr. Karloff's best. It was fun to see Anna Lee who starred in General Hospital for several years. I found the film to be boring.
