Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Buffed to a typical HBO high gloss, Candelabra is a visual feast. It shines brightest in those moments where it captures the rhythms of a relationship in its first blush of affection and its seemingly inevitable collapse. – Robert Bianco, USA Today, May 28, 2013

Fresh: This is one of the strangest and strongest TV movies in memory. – David Hiltbrand, Philadelphia Inquirer, May 27, 2013

Fresh: The stunning and quite intimate performances by Michael Douglas and Matt Damon are award-worthy. – Joanne Ostrow, Denver Post, May 28, 2013

Fresh: Crammed with garish decor, wild costumes and some unapologetically affected central performances, the final chapter in the life of flamboyant pianist Liberace gets a feisty, full-bodied treatment here. – Jim Schembri, 3AW, Aug 20, 2013

A triumph

When I read that Michael Douglas was cast as Liberace, I was horrified. How could one of the straightest men alive play the flamboyant showman. I was utterly thrilled with how amazing Douglas was in this role. He deserves every award possible for his ability to not only act like Liberace, but embody his showmanship, his vulnerabilities, and nuances. Damon and Lowe are also amazing. If this had been on the big screen, I think that Douglas would have swept the best leading actor Oscar. Great film. It's entertaining, it's funny, it's bittersweet, it's classic…just like Liberace himself.

Perfection

Probably one of the best performances in cinematic history, especially by Matt Damon. Beautifully filmed in rich textures catptures the mood of the era that was Liberace. Rob low gives a highly memorable comedic performace as the plastic surgin. Don't miss it.

A Must see
