Plot Summary
In 1989, six-year-old Martin Bristol (Spencer List of THE ORPHAN KILLER) was kidnapped from his backyard. Graham Sutter (Brett Rickaby of THE CRAZIES), a psychotic recluse, kept Martin imprisoned in his derelict slaughterhouse, forcing him to witness and participate in unspeakable horrors. For five years Martin’s whereabouts have remained a mystery, until a young girl (Alexandra Daddario of PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF) is sent to live with her uncle (Michael Biehn of ALIENS). Her curiosity about the deserted slaughterhouse disturbs a hornet’s nest of evil and despair that once torn open can never be closed. In this prequel to the cult classic Malevolence, Bereavement is hailed by HorrorNews.net as "the new gold standard in the Psycho Killer genre."

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: I'd sooner touch a nine-volt battery to my tongue than sit through this film again.
Rotten: Effective atmospherics don't rescue this formulaic slasher flick.
Fresh: Virtually every shot in Bereavement -- a sort of prequel to Mena's Malevolence (2005) -- is the right one; the editing, also by Mena, is first-rate.
Fresh: This is an example of what happens when a clever, proficient filmmaker falls in love with brutal trash.

Originality in a world of copycats.
Stevan Mena has done it again!! First there was Malevolence, which was an exciting departure from the typical "formula-driven" horror plots that we've been seeing for the past two decades. What stood out to me was the tight editing of Bereavement. So many films these days fail in the editing booth even though the acting, direction and technical aspects may be spot on. Mena seems to be paying attention to the details. If you love the horror genre you really should make a point of seeing this. It's well done on many levels. Keep it up!!!
Decent movie
I liked it but wanted to write to let people know not to read the bad comments on here because they are spoilers just cause u don't like a movie doesn't mean u have to ruin it for other
Best Horror in Decades
I am a major horror fan… love the genre and pretty much have seen everything out there!! This movie is one the most surprising scariest movies I've seen since the original Halloween. I was completely taken by the gore and twist of the movie… very well done and not over kill. I've add to my collection of horror films and can't wait to scare with other friends and family… get it!
