Plot Summary
With all of the problems facing the world today, people are longing for meaning. Many find answers in religion or spirituality, but as a result faith and religion are often hijacked by those seeking to enhance their own power. With this dichotomy in mind, Beyond Our Differences calls upon key religious leaders, politicians, and luminaries in their fields and it asks what it is that inspires them to affect positive change.

Inspiring on many levels
Beyond the visual beauty of this film (which alone is worth the price) and the parade of remarkable leaders whose ideas and perspectives are given voice, it is just plain inspiring. It's easy these days to assume that evil lurks behind every corner and I do think it's out there. But this film was a good wake-up call to remind me that the vast majority of human beings have no interest in killing one another. Smart, rational voices don't get a lot of air time on the cable news shows, so if you'd like to take a time-out from "newsworthy" wingnut rhetoric in favor of some genuinely intelligent and spiritual perspective, I think you should rent this film. And get it in HD if you can - really stunning cinematography.
Why believe a lie?
This simple primer reminds us that at the heart of all religions are the truths of universal love, respect forgiveness. Our leaders and ourselves have created and maintained difference. For what purpose? We can no longer remember.
Heavy weights like the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu are joined with amazing workers for healing. Workers who unite jewish and Palestinian teenagers, offer love to prison "lifers", and risk their lives to give young girls an education and hope in fundamentalist regimes. Each of us can change our thinking, thereby returning to the truths of our faiths - love, respect, forgiveness. Watch with your kids and relatives
Beyond my expectations
This film eclipsed my expectations by going deeper into the core fabric of religion and human values and moving past rhetoric. It is beautifully filmed and very moving.
