Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The strategy and strategizing of "Beyond Outrage" ... feel like overkill (if you'll pardon the expression). – Nicolas Rapold, New York Times, Jan 2, 2014

Fresh: The narrative haze clears eventually, and the action-dialogue ratio balances out with a succession of swift, punchy setpieces. – Justin Chang, Variety, Jan 2, 2014

Rotten: Beyond Outrage is the very sort of tiresome tough-guy retread that, with 2007's meta drama Glory to the Filmmaker! and 2008's darkly comic Achilles and the Tortoise, Kitano seemed to have outgrown. – Nick Schager, Village Voice, Dec 31, 2013

Fresh: What prevails throughout Beyond Outrage is a rigorous, downbeat classicism. – Jonathan Romney, Film Comment Magazine, Feb 6, 2014

Just ok...not really a good yakuza movie

I am a fan of Takeshi Kitano so it is sad for me to see the quality of his movies deteriorating over time. We are far from the great movies of the early 90s that made him famous both as an actor and director and became classics (Violent Cop, Sonatine, Kids Return, Hana-bi) or even "Brother" more recently. Like the first "Outrag", this movie is only ok and someone more objective than me on Kitano might actually give it less than 3 stars. Also I don't think this is a really good Yakuza movie, I have seen much better in the genre.

A Super Cool Sequel!

This sequel to Outrage is simply amazing and if you liked the 1st one you will really like this one. My fingers are crossed for a 3rd Outrage. lol

waiting for the 3rd film

Takeshi kitano one of a kind in creating some of the best gangster films i've ever seen since godfather part II, highly recommend watching it i already imported my physical copy to the states...p.s it ends in a cliff hanger
