Customer Reviews

Seeing movies through an Iron Curtain

An unusual movie, clearly produced during the height of the Communist paranoia that swept through the U. S. after World War II. While many of us today who enjoyed History 101 know how the rights of good people were trampled on in this country, by what amounted to Congress-sponsored witch hunts, this movie portrays those men as heros. This movie is full of patriotic symbolisms that might seem laughable today, but carried a lot of weight back when this film first came out. Anyone who likes history will find this movie an interesting look into the views behind the fear that exsisted during the Cold War.

One of the more spectactular flops

I can see why this movie is not shown . . . McCarthy must have been in tall cotton when this came out! Talk about Radical Conservatism run amok --- this movie is an embarassment to conservatives and for that matter, any adult living in this period of time. Bad acting aside, John Wayne came down on the wrong side of history when he made this bomb.
