Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The film never lifts itself above its origin as a well-meaning, underdeveloped exercise. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Apr 4, 2011

Rotten: It's overly faithful to the original and to Van Gogh's preferred three-camera setup. – Aaron Hillis, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Since neither character is ever explained or examined with any real insight, the viewer ceases to care early on. The overriding effect is paralyzing tedium. – Rex Reed, New York Observer, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: A remake of a film by murdered Dutch director Theo van Gogh, it fails to captivate despite -- or perhaps because of -- the frantic acting efforts of Tucci and the normally reliable Patricia Clarkson. – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Jun 24, 2010

really?

these actors are solid actors. but this script did not warrant a film. and these two actors are not so great that i want to watch them eat dinner. self indulgent and out of touch

Not quite... Anything really

Touching storyline, great characters... But didn't quite pull it together. Lacks true character development for this kind of a statement piece and feels disconnected in every way. I usually love unique independent films but this was a waste of time.
