Plot Summary
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Director at the 2001 Urbanworld Film Festival, Blue Hill Avenue focuses on the rise of the drug trade in Boston, as seen through the eyes of three childhood friends. The time is the late '70s, and Tristan (Allen Payne), Money (Aaron D. Spears), E-Bone (William Johnson), and Simon (Michael Taliferro) are all high-school pals and petty thieves on the mean streets of the city's South Side. Their antics bring them to the attention of Benny (Clarence Williams III), a charismatic drug dealer who takes the four friends under his wing. The most straight-and-narrow of the bunch, Tristan manages to keep his nefarious trade under the radar of his parents. As the years pass, however, the dealers introduce crack to their line of narcotics, and Tristan's sense of guilt over his neighborhood's demise leads to an inevitable betrayal of Benny, followed by a grisly showdown.

Boston, the real Blue Hill Ave:
From the late 80's to the early 90's: I grew up a few blocks down from the real Blue Hill Ave. in one of Boston's infamous and not widely known 'hoods called Roxbury. Life on Blue Hill Ave was different. Organized crews that pumped drugs were no where near as clean cut as these cats. Some of the slang they used in the 70's flash back scenes (when the crew was younger) was a little misplaced and too current. The worse part about this film (and this is not the producer's fault) is that the city of Boston wanted to charge WAY too much money for these folks to actually film in the city. Alot of the scenes are filmed in Canada. I'm sure the city of Boston had no problem letting the producers of "Mystic River" and "The Departed" to film in Boston (which by the way, were both really good movies) One of the good things about this movie and the other two I mentioned is: it shows how odd and bizarre crime can be in Boston. Things that happen there sometimes are JUST NOT NORMAL. This is especially true about the city I call home. I just wish someone would do a film depicting the Black community in Boston, in it's entirety with the good, the bad and the ugly.
An Underated Classic
Is not Allen Panye's best performance, but is close REAL CLOSE! This movie never got the glory that other movies got like Juice, Menace 2 Society, and others. So please, try not to negelect this modern masterpiece, IT'S REAL GOOD!!
Wishing on a soundtrack
This movie is FDA A1 approved. I just wish they made a sound track.
