Customer Reviews

Pure entertainment with old-fashioned, slam-bang action from the Duke!

An exciting, fast-paced thriller with slick direction and a great performance from screen legend John Wayne, "Brannigan" pulls out all the stops and then some! Following the success of Clint Eastwood's "Dirty Harry" (a role Wayne later regretted, but made up for it by making this film and 1974's "McQ"), John Wayne does bring his A-game to this film, with great effect! "Brannigan" also features a fine supporting cast from Richard Attenborough ("The Sand Pebbles"), Judy Geeson ("To Sir, With Love"), and the late actors John Vernon ("National Lampoon's Animal House") and Mel Ferrer ("The Longest Day"), and the film was beautifully shot in London with its exotic locations. Quick synopsis of the film: Tough Chicago Police Lt. Jim Brannigan (Wayne) is sent to London to extradite notorious American gangster Ben Larkin (Vernon), but before he can collect him, Larkin is kidnapped and Brannigan spends the rest of his time chasing around London in search of his quarry. Whilst struggling to adapt to the British way of life and the restrained style of policing, he employs techniques not usually seen outside Chicago. In the meantime, a contract has been put out on Brannigan's life by Larkin to prevent him from being extradited. Though travelling his way around London like a big vintage Cadillac, Duke lends his unique blend of charm and charisma and inevitably, he is given most of the best lines in what is a lively screenplay. For instance, there is nothing he likes better than to smash down villains front doors and bellow defiantly: "Knock! Knock!". This is vintage John Wayne and there is no harm in this as he was very good at what he did and as a consequence he has a devoted following of movie fans around the world. In conclusion, "Brannigan" is a must-have for every John Wayne fan like myself here on iTunes! Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Action Packed!

Not a very good plot but lots of action and classic John Wayne one liners

Fun Little Duke Action Film

Obviously, by the time he made this movie, Duke Wayne was sorry he turned down "Dirty Harry", so he made this fun little almost-carbon copy, going so far as to add a catch
phrase of his own ("Knock knock...") and also feature John Vernon -the mayor in "Dirty Harry" and later "Sledge Hammer!"- as the heavy. Not a great movie by any means, but
a real happy little not-too-serious fish out of water film that's still a joy to watch after all these years -even if it is a little dated.
