Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: One of the most spectacular entertainments in years. – Caryn James, New York Times, Feb 24, 2014

Fresh: Though the film dawdles a bit with the shimmery, dappled love stuff involving Wallace with a Scottish peasant and a French princess, the action will pin you to your seat. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Feb 24, 2014

Fresh: A huge, bloody and sprawling epic, Braveheart is the sort of massive vanity piece that would be easy to disparage if it didn't essentially deliver. – Brian Lowry, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Braveheart opts to turn cowardly, settling for the magnification of Gibson's idol status, forfeiting the complex, more nebulous magnificence of the real Sir William Wallace and virtually excising the strategic brilliance of Robert The Bruce. – Paula Nechak, Film.com, Jun 24, 2010

You can watch it over and over again!

Braveheart is one of those movies that you will never get tired of. With its great plot, acting and Mel Gibson's convincing Scotish accent, this movie deserves all that it has won (in awards). 5 stars-amazing.

Scotland Rules

officially the sickest movie ever. this movie is freakin' inspiring. you need to own this movie no matter what you're into.

A Grand, Epic Film of Love and Revenge...

Mel Gibson is a great crafter, even if he's controversial, you cannot deny his talents. Sure, Braveheart may be historically inaccurate at times, but we get a grand tale worthy of a little misplacing here and there. The acting is great. You cannot argue. The writing is inspirational. I'm sure everyone's favorite line is "Freedom!" but what it really succeeds in that many films fail in, are the delivery speeches before a battle. Great dialogue, and a great story. The directing is very good, but not exactly award-worthy in my opinion. The art direction and costumes are very well done. Though the chain-mail isn't convincing, and some of the outfits -- mainly the English -- don't exactly have the loviest nor detailed getups. Overall, this is a great film. It's epic, and William Wallace's story is purely great entertainment. Worth a rent/buy.
