Plot Summary
Soulful and musical British exchange student Sophie Williams (Jones) comes to New York in search of inspiration. On the surface, Sophie’s host family seems happy enough, but with her arrival to the Reynolds’ Upstate New York home, the private struggles of each family member begin to bubble. In particular, frustrated musician-turned-piano- teacher Keith Reynolds (Guy Pearce) finds long suppressed dreams and desires reignited by Sophie’s talent and inquisitive nature. While Keith’s wife, Megan (Amy Ryan) and daughter, Lauren (breakout talent, Mackenzie Davis) focus on Lauren’s final year of high school, Sophie and Keith are drawn ever closer by their mutual longing for creative expression. Ultimately, Sophie and Keith must confront how much they are willing to sacrifice and what they truly want out of life.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: "Breathe In" is a good enough movie that you wish the screenplay had further fleshed out its characters and relationships and emerged as more than a skillful sketch.
Fresh: Buoyed by some nicely nuanced performances (especially by Pearce and Amy Ryan as his dream-dashing wife), Breathe In never quite rises above its predictable potboiler premise.
Rotten: Not that May-December romances can't be compelling, but it's hard to root for a guy in his forties to find the courage to make time with a barely legal girl, no matter how dissatisfied he is with his life.
Rotten: Although Jones and Pearce are interesting when onscreen alone, their chemistry is slightly off.

Lessons & desires don't necessarily mix well !
Hypnotic, sophisticated, mesmerizing, seductive tale of infidelity victoriously overpowered by marriage and family
obsessed
i love this movie. i think it's amazing and love both main characters and actors. YAY!
A beautiful, quiet, thoughtful film
While some will probably find this movie frustrating in places, I thought it was really beautiful and poignant. Guy Pearce in particular was great, and though this film definitely won't be for everyone, I really enjoyed it!
