Plot Summary

This highly-acclaimed winner of five Emmy Awards is one of the best-loved movies ever made for television. It's the true story of a special relationship between two professional football players, Gale Sayers (Billy Dee Williams) and Brian Piccolo (James Caan). Both star players for the Chicago Bears, Sayers and Piccolo soon became roommates and best friends. When Sayers suffers a knee injury in mid-season, it is Piccolo who prods and inspires him to work toward a complete recovery. Then fate deals a cruel blow: Piccolo is stricken with malignant cancer. The constant support and friendship of Sayers plays an important role in Piccolo's heroic fight against the disease. Also starring Shelley Fabares (TV's Coach) as Piccolo's loving wife, BRIAN'S SONG is a moving and unforgettable film.

Awesome Friendship Movie

Brian Piccolo was Gayle Sayers' rival yet Sayers sincerely encouraged Brian to get back to health because Brian was his friend first and rival second. Gayle had the notion that competition would only make him a better running back and he wanted Brian Piccolo to be his competitor. This movie is great at exposing the depth of the friendship between Gayle Sayers and Brian Piccolo. I'll never get tired of this movie.

Can't go wrong

First movie to make me cry during its original viewing. I was about 9 or 10. Had my daughter watch this recently (aged 10), she cried too. CLASSIC, CLASSIC, CLASSIC. And it doesn't get much better than the footage of Gale Sayers running to music. This has to be where the term "poetry in motion" originated.

Sad but Good

This movie shows you the life of Brain Piccolo and how short life can be. Great movie for people loving football and drama.
