Plot Summary
Based on Noel Coward's classic film of a chance meeting, this is a story of innocence and unexpected love. Anna and Dr. Alec Harvey meet by chance and their casual friendship turns into a tormenting relationship. Realising the danger to her marriage, Anna avoids Alec who is unhappy in his own marriage, and pursues Anna with increasing intensity. Unable to resist his charm, Anna accepts Alec's invitation to a rendezvous in a friend's apartment. When the friend unexpectedly returns, Anna is overwhelmed with shame - her fantasy dream has become a nightmare of deceit.

Sophia Loren has been in some pretty tremendous movies. However, this is one of her absolute best. Richard Burton is fantastic. This movie haunted me for a long time after I saw it. Sophia Loren, when given the right material, is second to no actress. This movie is the right material. These two also starred in "The Voyage" which, too, is a touching film. However, this movie, much better than the original version, goes right to the heart of marriage, middle age, adultery in an intelligent and sensitive way. FIVE STARS
