Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Has more life to it than such recent teen duds as Boys and Girls, Whatever It Takes, or the limp, cringe worthy Loser. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 7, 2011

Rotten: Dunst can't really hold pic together. – Robert Koehler, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: [Dunst is] the big reason the film rises above instantly rejectable formula to campy pop. – Jay Carr, Boston Globe, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: This earnest and arch story -- so fast paced its formulas are wonderfully obscured -- has an adolescent energy and a tempered sexuality, and it's infused with the moral agenda of a warmly didactic sitcom. – Lisa Alspector, Chicago Reader, Jun 24, 2010

Classic Teen Movie

I remember when this was first released everyone was reciting the cheers "U G L Y You ain't got no alibi you ugly..." or "Brrr it's cold in here.." Sure it's a little over the top but that just adds to the humor of it. The story is about a girl Torrance (Kristen Dunst) who is obsessed with cheerleading and is elected the captain of the cheer squad. Everything seems all fine until they choose a new girl with attitude to be on the squad who just moved from L.A. named Missy. (Eliza Dushku). Missy informs Torrance that the cheers they been performing have been stolen from another squad. The movie continues onward with this new challenge of whether to keep the old cheers or make new ones because they want to make nationals. Aside form the cheerleading there is also a love interest for Torrance and other trivial events that happen in high school. All in all, it's a hilarious movie that reflects on high school with the twist of it being the point of view of a cheer squad. Oh and the sequels are not as good as this one.
