Mike were perfect hadn't he been born in late 20th century Brooklyn, a New York borough dominated by the mob, in his case Carmine Mancuso, who luckily chooses to protect bright Mike, even against mob ruffian Gino, and his two inseparable buddies. Cocky Carmine Mancuso actually chooses to join the bloody business, sparing only his youth friends. Third mate Bobby Canzoneri, whose equally dumb parents hosted the gang as kids, naively aims no higher then tenure in the US Post. Yet Bobby ends up dead when a mob war erupts.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: However authentic and heartfelt this film's depiction of life on the meaner streets of the Northeast corridor may be, it doesn't begin to match The Sopranos' epic vision of violence, class struggle and upward mobility in a barbarous culture.
Rotten: Years after Federal Hill (1994), director Michael Corrente is still doing low-budget Mean Streets knockoffs.
Fresh: Capturing Manhattan's essence is easy. But capturing life inside provincial New York City -- is something that eludes most filmmakers...And now add Brooklyn Rules to the short list of movies that get it right.
Fresh: Though the three friends at the center of the story don't always look or sound smart, the movie does both.

Is English your second language?
The movie is no more worth watching then the above 'Plot Summary' is worth reading. Both could use far better writing skills.
Some great performances!
It's a nice change of pace to see the everyday side of the mobster lifestyle over the ones with the greater than life characters. It captures the journeyman view of New York as I see it when I visit - and that these things could be happening all around. Great performances by Alec Baldwin and Scott Caan jus before their television careers took off with 30 Rock and Hawaii Five-0.
Excellent--Impressively Timeless
A realistic, fully fleshed image of Manhattan, made more real through top-notch performances from Alec Baldwin, Scott Caan, Jerry Ferrara, Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Mena Suvari. Mobsters, culture, and coming-of-age all bring out the best (and worst) of some truly three-dimensional characters. Definitely recommend!
