Plot Summary

A mysterious drifter (Josh Hartnett) and an ardent young Japanese warrior Yoshi (Gackt) both arrive in a town that is terrorized by outrageous and virulent criminals. Each is obsessed with his separate mission, and guided by the wisdom of The Bartender (Woody Harrelson) at the Horseless Horseman Saloon, the two eventually join forces to bring down the corrupt and contemptuous reign of Nicola (Ron Perlman), the awesomely evil "woodcutter" and his lady Alexandra (Demi Moore), a femme fatale with a secret past. This classic tale is re-vitalized and re-imagined in an entirely fresh visual context, set in a unique world that mixes skewed reality with shadow-play fantasy, a place where even the landscape can betray you.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A potpourri of genres that ends up a morass of cliches. – Andy Webster, New York Times, Sep 29, 2011

Rotten: It's a pic that's akin to a terrarium of plastic flowers -- gaudily decorative, but airless and lifeless. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Sep 26, 2011

Rotten: "Bunraku" is so desensitizing with its hyper-stylized distractions and movie references it feels more mush-up than mash-up. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Sep 29, 2011

Rotten: Moshe, who wrote and directed, creates a boldly Expressionistic alternate reality to background this heavy-on-the-action story, but neglects narrative and character beyond the most basic strokes. – Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter, Sep 26, 2011

:D

It's about freaking time this came out!!! GACKT fans have been waiting for over three and a half years for this moment!! ^___^ <3

Pretty good..

The environment seems nostalgic, like it was made back in the days where everything was made in a studio. As for the acting, that is pretty good even though the asian character's eyebrows freaked me out a little bit. The choreography was comical but decent. Overall it seems like you can go on for days with spinoffs, in which I hope they do. The movie in general was pretty neat and refreshing from today's staple action and/or noir type movies. BRING BACK THE NOIR!!! Good movie.

YAY

Really good in my opinion, I've been waiting for this movie forever~! Good cast and wonderful story, and of course.... GACKT~!!!!!
