Plot Summary
This autobiographical comedy is the first-ever screen adaptation of the work of acclaimed writer David Sedaris. Jonathan Groff (Glee) stars as David, a young man who plans a summer in the Northwest with his friend Jennifer (Troian Bellisario of Pretty Little Liars), working on a farm. But when Jennifer unexpectedly bails on him, David is left to dirty his hands alone and jump into a series of misadventures that will take him to unfamiliar - and hilariously uncomfortable - places. A presentation of Focus World, the alternative distribution division of Focus Features, and Screen Media Films.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Despite smatterings of wit and a stable of skilled performers, "C.O.G." struggles to find a consistent tone, its episodic structure veering from farcical to poignant to dangerously raw.
Fresh: The source material may be David Sedaris (this marks the first time the essayist has allowed one of his pieces to be adapted), but the tone couldn't be more Kyle Patrick Alvarez, who once again steers auds to some gloriously uncomfortable places.
Fresh: Don't expect a rash of David Sedaris screen adaptations to be sparked by this bland effort.
Fresh: Modest and good-looking, the film starts as dark comedy and ends in pathos. Director Alvarez makes the Oregon scenery a character unto itself.

Terribly Disappointing
I am a big fan of David Sedaris, but holy cow does this movie stink. Don't listen to the over the top reviews of how amazing it is, it isn't. Castwise,.Jonathan Groff, Denis O'Hare, and Corey Stoll give excellent performances. The problem is the movie just goes nowhere and ends with a thud. I gave it two stars because of the acting, but I would not recommend this movie to anyone, especially Sedaris fans.
I want my $7 back
Lacking plot, character development, or any kind of satisfaction whatsoever. Very disappointing for this fan of David Sedaris. I want my $7 back.
Comedy?
This movie does not match the misleading description/narrative. Even saying this movie is a dark comedy would be a reach. It was pretty raw exploring religion and homosexuality without any clear statement/purpose. There was no emotional or meaningful journey for me. However, the lead actor did an especially good job.
