Plot Summary
Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to Cabaret. The winner of eight Academy Awards, it boasts a score by the legendary songwriting partnership behind another film that would energize the movie musical genre with equal razzle-dazzle 30 years later: Chicago's John Kander and Fred Ebb. Inside the Kit Kat Club of 1931 Berlin, starry-eyed singer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) and an impish emcee (Joel Grey) sound the clarion call to decadent fun, while outside a certain political party grows into a brutal force. Cabaret caught lightning (and won Oscars) for Minnelli, Grey and director Bob Fosse, who shaped a triumph of style and substance. Come to this Cabaret, old chum. You'll never want to leave.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Everybody in Cabaret is very fine, and meticulously chosen for type, down to the last weary transvestite and to the least of the bland, blond open-faced Nazis in the background.
Fresh: The screenplay, which never seems to talk down to an audience while at the same time making its candid points with tasteful emphasis, returns the story to a variety of settings.
Fresh: ...the context of Germany on the eve of the Nazi ascent to power makes the entire musical into an unforgettable cry of despair.
Fresh: Whatever this 1972 feature is, it's entertaining and stylish, though maybe not quite as serious as it wants to be.

Great performances, Great Music!
This film earned Liza Minnelli the Academy Award for Best Actress of 1972 (Although, Diana Ross was a close second for "Lady Sings The Blues"). If you enjoyed "Chicago" than you will enjoy "Cabaret" because that's where "Chicago" gets it's film style and influences. Director Bob Fosse, and Joel Grey also won Oscars for this stylish musical, which you will enjoy every minute of. Worth the rental and purchase!
This movie is NOT widescreen!
The description of the movie states 'format:widescreen' - but I do not regard stretched 4:3 as widescreen! Where is the 16:9 version?
The video encoding is poor - almost as though someone transferred the movie from VHS!
This is a real shame as Cabaret is a great movie, let down by a very poor transfer into iTunes.
movie's great, but ruined by wrong aspect ratio
I love cabaret, and I was totally disappointed by the fact that the version I downloaded was cast in a totally wrong aspect (too wide) - all faces look so unnatural, I just can't watch it
