Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: In the Beirut beauty salon where most of Caramel takes place, women of various shapes, sizes, ages and backgrounds gather to bond and gossip. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: There's a pleasant, easygoing charm to Caramel, largely stemming from Labaki's rare determination to depict Beirut as something other than a war-torn, slowly recovering battleground. – Tasha Robinson, Chicago Tribune, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: In a culture where female sexuality is problematic at best, how is a woman supposed to feed both body and heart? Through makeovers, support, and necessary lies, Caramel curtly answers. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Don't expect an elegant, fully realized production. Do expect, though, to be touched and surprised by a string of intimate, urgent vignettes. – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, Jun 24, 2010

what a great movie

This is a foreign movie but many of the themes are universal in many ways. It is centered on the daily lives and struggles of five Lebanese women in Beirut. These women are dealing with the same issues as any woman in any part of the world. The performances were good, and I must say that Nadine Labaki is a very beautiful woman. It was a touching movie, watch it, I promise you won't regret it.

Nadine Labaki makes me proud

.... to be Lebanese. I am Lebanese and this is our life. I'm very proud of Nadine Labaki for being able to portray the lives of our women so vividly. She's a beautiful woman and a very good actress. The movie (with everything in it) is very well executed. Deserved 5 starts!!

a movie with tangible realities

this movie is an example of the alternative of hollywood mainstream junkfood. its is beautifully done with real emotions and story lines that is more parellel with our world. the soundtrack is outstanding. a must see if you wish to experiance real art.
