Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A well-cast, well-intentioned movie that falls into the trap that often awaits film biographies of brave and widely admired individuals. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Mar 27, 2014

Fresh: It should have been made 40 years ago, but this biopic about the Mexican-American leader who spearheaded the fight for farmworkers' rights couldn't be more timely. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Apr 4, 2014

Fresh: Not only powerful but timely, given divided attitudes toward immigration and unionization. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Mar 27, 2014

Rotten: As a filmmaker, Luna is still finding his voice. For all he effectively puts on screen in "Cesar Chavez," Luna never gets past his respect for the accomplishments to give us a true measure of the man. – Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times, Mar 27, 2014

Proud...

I really liked this movie
And I'm proud to say I'm a Mexican American from the Imperial Valley!

Great, but not perfect.

This is a tuff story to tell in a movie format. Movie skips over a number of important events (especially regarding Dolores Huerta - in real life she had a larger role than shown) and over dramatizes other events. Overall it's a great overview of his life and an introduction for those who didn't know him or about the individuals who grow the food we eat ever day, who still face many of the issues shown in the movie... whether they were born here like Cesar, or not...

A True Inspiration

I can't wait to see it again.
