Justly Put.....Wow
To whom it may concern, to include but not limited to critics with their critiques, Generation-Y in their poor taste in movies that have to be "it", and Generation-X and the Baby-Boomers with whom the classics have been lacking,
I do not agree with the whole "A-Movie" or "B-Movie" debate. I shall paraphrase and cite Oscar Wilde, "There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral [film]. [Films] are well [made], or badly [made]. That is all." This was by far a most excellent movie.
I am a citizen of the US. But I was graced with the luck to spend much more time out of it and raised in Europe in my formatative years. This gave me an unbiased approach to the world. Now my Russian studies consisted of a whole school year of my 12 grade year in the IB program in the Stockholm International School. From Peter the Great and his Modernization to Stalin. Interesting.
Now with the Arts? I find that it was hard to capture. I mean you could either glorify the Politics, or not. Well Chagall took a risk. Kudos to the young actor developing the personality of such an artist. I frankly don't like Chagall's work, but his personality, life, and the convergence of his religion and the politics in his lifetime and what he had to contend with, now that was great.
His wife. A beautiful woman. I think it is hard to love an artist. Trust me I know. There is the impatiance of the one that is waiting, and the frustration of the one that is yearning. One can't be without the other. But the Mrs. Chagall, truley a driving force. To raise the question, is she the real artist? The muse? And therefore, is Chagall just the tool in expressing her? Makes one think.
With regard to Mitta. A great director. I have seen his movie "Air Crew" truly another great film. I believe better then the "Airport" series. The direction of that movie compared to Chagall and the passion behind both, truly is amazing. I mean look at both and you are able to say "Mitta." Whilst I hope that there are more films from such a great director, at the same time if he were to "stop at Chagall," then I think that would be well done. A great masterpiece.
All in all, I suggest the viewer to read a book about this guy Chagall, and the romance behind him. Also, read up about his wife. For, both these potential acting stars embraced both of their personalities. Truly.
It was like watching the Razor's Edge. Or a classic movie with, and not limited to, Humphry Bogart, Cary Grant, Tyrone Powers, Clifton Webb, Gregory Peck. On the other end of the spectrum, Veronica Lake, Gene Tierney, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis.
Well done,
Dave S.
