Plot Summary

Just as the university research team is about to prove that their new technique will permit water to be used as a fuel, their laboratory is sabotaged and the lab manager is killed. Eddie Kasalivich (Keanu Reeves) stumbles onto the scene and manages not only to witness the sabotage, but to escape from it. When he tries to talk about it to authorities, he discovers that they think he and the other project survivors committed the crime. In reality, a group of energy companies have conspired with interested parties in the government to completely erase all notion of the existence of a way to use water as fuel. The project sponsor (Morgan Freeman) wants Eddie to turn himself in, but before he can do that, he must find enough evidence to clear himself and his friends. But in order to succeed, Eddie must avoid assassination attempts by the real perpetrators.

Rotten: The movie is so uninvolving that it inspires renewed respect for Broken Arrow, which was equally stupid but excitingly filmed. – Mike Clark, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Plodding and predictable, and a big disappointment. – Eric Brace, Washington Post, Aug 14, 2006

Rotten: It's not a bad film in individual moments and in the energy of itsperformances, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Chain Reaction isn't dull -- the film is paced to keep audiences attentive -- but the lack of originality dampens its enjoyability. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Sep 16, 2006

good movie

was trashed by critics....but i liked this movie

Much better than expected

I don't know why the critics panned this film. It held together quite well and the action was perfect for the characters. The message is important and timely (was in 1996 as well). Morgan Freeman does a superb job.

Great Movie!

Overall i liked this movie! I belive it is exactly what would happen if technology like this was realesed. Back in about 1927, a Scientist which name cannot be found, made a vehicle that could soley run on rubbing alcohol. You know, the stuff that is .98 cents at the store.....well a famous car company found out about it bought it from him and then destoryed it. We are so money hungry in ths time, we need to realize that even though we still have tons of oil in the ground, that we still can invent new ways of making energy.
