Whats a waste of time and money! I wanted to like the documentary but it failed to deliver and actually ended up annoying me entirely. The films portrayal of Markopolos as some renegade Rambo was a joke. The constant references to his fear of being assassinated was overly hyped up with dramatic theatrics, when in reality the man did not receive one death threat. Film revolves around Markopolos little coverage on Madoff himself. Utter disappointment.

modern day heros

What really matters in this movie is the story of a few good men who were willing to do the right thing in the face of overwhelming greed and apathy. Despite the clumsy production that message is not lost.

Sloppy self-serving journalism

I really wanted to like this film. I was always curious as to why the SEC could not catch this guy after over a decade. I sort of got an answer.

Unfortunately, what you have here is a film about four finance/investment people who were accusing a major competitor of a Ponzi scheme. They wanted Bernie's clients and so their allegations were perceived by authorities and journalists mostly as jealousy and sour grapes.

The film spends much time accusing the SEC of incompetence, and perhaps they were. But judging by the paranoid way in which this film's subjects went about proving their case it's not surprising that the allegations against Maydoff were met with skepticism.

These guys seem smart enough to uncover a global Ponzi scheme "in less than an hour, " but not smart enough to hire attorneys start a blog or take out an ad to warn people as to what was happening.

Yet they call everyone else they approached to stick their neck out against one of the worlds largest investment bankers "stupid" and "incompetent."
