Plot Summary
The legendary Peter Falk is irresistible in a life-affirming comedy to die for that also stars Laura San Giacomo, David Paymer and Judge Reinhold. On the eve of his 90th birthday, eccentric, celebrated stage actor Morris Applebaum (Falk) summons his three grown children to his Manhattan apartment for a festive shindig no one will ever forget. Because when the party's over, Morris intends to make his "final exit". No, he's not ill or suffering from depression; he just wants to go out the way he's lived: on his own terms.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Only Laura San Giacomo, as Morris's lonely daughter, Flo, transcends the staginess of the premise and the creakiness of Richard Marcus's screenplay to deliver a performance that feels remotely natural.
Fresh: Funny is funny, and there's no denying that much of Checking Out is agreeably entertaining in a Neil Simon Lite fashion.
Fresh: This Borscht Belt version of King Lear, recently given a limited theatrical release, will find its true home on video and cable.
Rotten: A lame comedy full of wooden acting, schmaltz, cliches and racial stereotypes.
