A Documentary on the Creation of OVO™, by Cirque du Solei®, Hatching is an intimate observation of artists and the supporting cast hard at work building an original show, inspired by the beauty and movement found in the world of insects. At first glance insects might seem to be an odd source of inspiration. Undeterred, the creation team gathered at the Montreal headquarters of Cirque du Soleil and set to conceptualize a performance accessible to one and all, “insectophobes” included. All the while the cameras rolled, revealing the amazing metamorphosis of artist to insect. The result is a touching observation of the original approach taken by Deborah Colker, the first woman to ever direct a Cirque du Soleil show. Her collaborators arrived from all corners and cultures of the world, and brought with them varied and disparate backgrounds. They each took the creative “leap” of faith and together landed with collective wings.
