Plot Summary

Steve Lowther is on a mission. He's determined to take his hometown of Philomath, a rural Oregon timber town of 4,000, back from the "urban immigrants" who now run the school district. At stake: a generous college scholarship Lowther administers that has paid the college tuition of thousands of Philomath graduates for the last 40 years.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: In leading players' righteousness and unwillingness to compromise, this real-life drama encapsulates current U.S. society's tug-of-war over values. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Apr 23, 2011

Clear Cut: The story of Philomath, Oregon

A true and accurate depiction of events that tore a small town in half. As a resident of Philomath with high school aged children at the time, I lived through the pain of seeing a great town fall victim to a misguided man's attempts to control morality by extorting the town's legacy college scholarship money. The futures of many, many kids were abruptly taken away buy this man. True, real life view of small town America in the struggle for tolerance versus money.
