Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It is a surpassing entertainment, one of the great epic films of our day.
Rotten: Sad to say, however, the deep-revolving, witty Mankiewicz fails most where most he hoped to succeed. As drama and as cinema, Cleopatra is raddled with flaws. It lacks style both in image and in action.
Fresh: Cleopatra is not only a supercolossal eye-filler (the unprecedented budget shows in the physical opulence throughout), but it is also a remarkably literate cinematic recreation of an historic epoch.
Rotten: [A] general muddle.

Outstanding
And who does better for Caesar than Rex Harrison?
Burton!
They don't make em like this anymore. Richard Burton is amazing in his role as Mark Antony.
SO OVER THE TOP!
This movie is definitely not for the weak, and by weak, I mean one has to be strong enough to sit through 4 hours of over the top fluff. Sure it's long, and the script could have been put better, but hey, this is the first film for cinema super couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Regardless of its flaws, I love this movie, though i can definitely see why some people don't. Watch it and decide.
