Plot Summary
Planes reported missing in 1945 suddenly appear in the Mojave desert. A commercial flight is buzzed by a 'bright' object that the pilot 'wouldn't know how to describe'. Roy Neary, while working one night, has a Close Encounter... The US Government determine where the visitors plan to land and create an elaborate cover-up to keep people away. However, a group of people, including Neary, share a vision which draws them to the place and a meeting with new, and old, friends.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The best -- the most elaborate -- 1950's science fiction movie ever made, a work that borrows its narrative shape and its concerns from those earlier films, but enhances them with what looks like the latest developments in movie and space technology.
Fresh: [Spielberg's] new movie is richer and more ambitious than Jaws, and it reaches the viewer at a far more profound level than Star Wars.
Fresh: A daring film concept which in its special and technical effects has been superbly realized.
Fresh: It must weather some bummy mid-passage exposition, but the movie survive its flaws triumphantly, evolving into a uniquely transporting filmgoing spectacle.
Customer Reviews
A masterpiece!
An exceptional movie in all respects.
It’s fun, after you’ve seen it once, to arch it to catch the continuity foul-ups.
A 5 Star Climactical Experience!
Wow! Close Encounters of The Third Kind is one of few peaks in the world of cinemas. It is a strong disgrace that this film did not receive any Oscars!
Richard Dreyfuss (Roy Neary) puts you in position as a character in his faces through out the film!
This is Another Great and Strong Steven Spielberg achievement That puts and major impulse on history!
People will see this film and never Walk away the same in which they are absolutely stunned and moved away. This film will also change the way we look at the sky and understand how disturbing society is in which we need to make a change to stand strong!
