Plot Summary
A witty, romantic, and very dangerous love story about chance meetings, instant attractions, and casual betrayals. CLOSER is director Mike Nichols' critically acclaimed look at four strangers - Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen - with one thing in common: each other. Adapted by Patrick Marber from his award-winning stage play, CLOSER "VIBRATES WITH EROTICISM, BRUISING LAUGHS, AND DYNAMIC PERFORMANCES. CLOSER IS A TRIUMPH!" - Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It does shock, I should say, in the way of men and women doing their psychological worst and most ruthless to push away those they have previously pulled close.
Fresh: Vibrates with eroticism, bruising laughs and dynamite performances from four attractive actors doing decidedly unattractive things.
Rotten: Like dramas by Pinter and others, what seems trenchant and perfectly pitched in the theater can come off as arch even when skillfully transferred to film.
Fresh: [A] chilly, caustic, foul-mouthed anatomy of modern romance.

A MUST SEE!!!
I just watched this movie for the first time EVER last week & it was amazing! This isn't your typical happy predictable love story. It is however racy, vulgar, shocking & quite beautiful. It gives a great look at how people in relationships have these secret lives basically showing how people are not really close with each other at all & what defines a bad relationship to simply a relationship. CLOSER has some great storytelling, great charater development, great acting.. it's just great in general. A must see if you already haven't!!!
Great film
This is an extreme way to show how the grey parts of relationships exist. The acting is extraordinaire. Great cast and not a film to be taken lightly as your average love chick flick. I consider this film as my top 5 fav's. must see.
Gut wrenching
This film is about raw human emotions in sex, betrayals, passion, lies, blackmail & love. The first really "adult" film for Natalie Portman, who is wonderfully believable and comfortable despite the subject matter. It is a story about real love, perceived love, love based on a lie, love unrequited and so much more. Clive Owen is great as the apparently weak doctor who falls in love with Julia Roberts. As is Jude Law whom you can't decide if he really loves her or just wants to get her away from Clive Owen while telling Portman he loves her as well. The film is uncomfortable and painful to watch at times, but it is brutally honest. One of the best films on human emotion I have ever seen.
