Academy Award-winner Tommy Lee Jones ("The Fugitive," "The Client") stars as baseball legend Ty Cobb. A sportswriter is contacted by Cobb to write a white-washed version of his life story but, after discovering the dark and scandalous truth behind the legend, he must decide whether to write the real story or maintain the myth. Co-starring Robert Wuhl ("Good Morning, Vietnam," "Bull Durham") and Lolita Davidovich ("JFK," "Leap of Faith") and written by Ron Shelton ("Bull Durham," "White Men Can"t Jump"). Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Even allowing for the intentional excesses of such an episode, delicacy is a casualty here. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, May 6, 2014

Fresh: Shelton's strong, stinging film -- one of the year's best -- wants to get at something ingrained in the American character: the irrational desire to make saints of sports heroes. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, May 6, 2014

Fresh: This is a messy movie, sometimes repetitive, sometimes too compressed and allusive. But that's like saying Ty Cobb was not a very good sport -- irrelevant in comparison to the horrific fascination of his story. – Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine, Mar 21, 2011

Fresh: Of all the good and great movies that have slipped through the cracks in recent years, none has been treated as appallingly as Cobb. – Charles Taylor, Salon.com, Aug 5, 2008

Pure Acting by a Master

There is not a ton of baseball in this movie. They do talk baseball which I like but the acting by Jones is just powerfull. I last saw this movie 10 years ago and am downloading it now for my Ipod. I cannot wait to watch it a few times here soon.

Listen to Me L

The movie did a fine job, just like Bird Man Of Alcatraz did. One thing they didnt do is show the REAL dark side of Ty He was a terrible man in the end. Rich, Talented, but crazy. I think it was a great movie with that showed some realistic dialog, especially between Ty and his driver. This is a baseball movie to say the least. Only watch it if you have played the game. If you havent played the game, rent Field of Dreams.
