Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Not just sobering; it's a full-on assault.
Fresh: It's not a pretty picture, but it is not a naive one either. The grippingly articulate Ruppert is like Noam Chomsky as a wry pundit of doom.
Fresh: Collapse" is a grueling peek at a doomsday prophet's rigorous mind but in a sly way also a compassionate look at the strain Ruppert endures from knowing he has only ever been right.
Rotten: It would have been helpful had Smith put his words into some sort of context, allowing others to assess his theories. Instead there's simply Ruppert, talking, raging and warning, as if his very life depended on it.

Overly paranoid and misinformed
While Ruppert may be quite vociferous and persuasive, his theories are not based on unbiased fact. His theories stink of the Ricardian vice (picking examples that suit your model), and some of the examples he does choose are completely misinformed. Ruppert states that the entire economy is a "pyramid" scheme. This shows that he does not understand the dynamics of the Federal Reserve and macroeconomics.
I do not have the time or wherewithal right now to fully explain Keynesian economics, but Ruppert disregards the ability of the Federal Reserve to increase or decrease the money supply depending on the recession deficit and multiplier 1/MPS. However, he is spot on that oil is a finite resource of which we inarguably require to sustain the modern industrial world. Nonetheless, Ruppert's entire doomsday prediction can be debunked if we take into account human ingenuity. The productive mechanism of capitalism channels humans desire to better their own situations into solutions that improve society as a whole. We cannot derogate human's propensity to invent that which increases their own standard of living. In conclusion, Ruppert's death sentence for humanity neither should be taken as utter fact, nor disregarded all together. And for purposes of a review, the film was informative on different aspects of peak oil. I would recommend this movie for entertainment, not educational purposes.
Collaspe
Pray to God that he is wrong about the predictions he makes...although for some of them it's too late - they have happened and are happening as we speak.
My first reaction was this guy is going to be a crock pot but as you see throughout the movie - this is no dog and pony show. Evidence is layed out for you in a clear way - no man on the grassy knoll here.
See for yourself! Great Film!
Only the details remain in question...
I have extensive formal training and experience that inform my opinion of this offering. This individual is speaking the truth. I don't know his full story or the background of the project but I can tell you as a scholar, a citizen and as a human living on this planet that the message is genuine. Listen to the message of the film and to the one inside you that says something is very, very wrong. God help us all.
