Plot Summary

This epic western starring Val Kilmer, Steve Zahn, Linda Cardellini, and Rachel Griffiths was adapted from Larry McMurtry's sprawling novel of the same name, and actually constitutes a prequel to Lonesome Dove. Texas Rangers Woodrow Call and Agustus McCrae may be getting up there in years, but their determination to capture Comanche war chief Buffalo Hunt, Comanche horse thief Kicking Wolf, and an elusive Mexican bandit king certainly hasn't faded with age. Now, as Gus attempts to resolve his personal issues with longtime love Clara Forsythe and Call comes to terms with his feelings for local prostitute Maggie Tilton, fellow Texas Rangers Deets, Jake Spoon, and Pea Eye Parker do their best to safeguard the advancing western frontier from the legions of Comanches who have vowed to defend their land to the death.

Very dissapointed

Lonesome dove, Dead Man's Walk, Streets of Loredo, and Return to Lonesome Dove are some of my favorite movies of all time, but this thing did not even come close to living up to expectations. I though the actor that did Gus did a pretty good job, but the rest of the movie was a mess. This was supposed to show us how Gus and Woodrow came to be famous Texas rangers, instead it made them look like a bunch of goofs.

A STAND UP JOB

Nothing can compare to the performances of Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones, but these guys did an AMAZING job portraying a younger version of Gus and Call. Great movie, great story ... you won't regret buying this one.

better than the 2nd

you really can't compare this to the first. thats why i'm only giving it 4 stars. i thought it was pretty fnny and gus was the best of all. if you haven't seen the first you better hurry up and see it, it's really great!!!
